Valentine’s at-home Plant’N’Sip Baskets!

Foliage in Glass!

In your basket;

-ponytail palm, beaucarnea recurvata

-polka dot plant, hypoestes phyllostachya

-trailing spike moss, selaginella kraussiana

2 will fit, so see which you have!

materials included;

-charcoal, definitely needed!! This gets mixed into your soil, no need to do a separate layer.

-soil

-decorative rocks, sand & moss

First, mix soil & charcoal.

Next, to get the plant out of their pots, turn pots horizontal in your hands. squish the pot gently between fingers & thumb. Rotate the pot a quarter turn, squish. rotate a quarter, squish. At this point, you should be able to turn pot slightly downward & shake plant out into other hand.

If soil ball is really tight, gently squish 1-2x to loosen. For plants like your ponytail palm, you can separate out the bulbs and arrange in different places or keep all together.

Arrange as you like, ensuring enough soil covers the roots. Gently press soil in around plants, but no need to compact really hard.

Add sand or rocks & moss to create the little world as you please.

Keep soil moist by spraying or pouring in about 1/2 oz- 1oz of water when soil begins to look light brown.

Succulents in terracotta!

-mixed varieties of succulents*

-landscape fabric to cover drainage hole- this allows for water to still pass through, but you lose less soil!

-succulent mix soil

-decorative rocks, sand & moss

First, cover drainage hole with little, black fabric or the LBF if you will.

Next, put soil in pot a quarter to half way full.

Next, to get the plant out of their pots, turn pots horizontal in your hands. squish the pot gently between fingers & thumb. Rotate the pot a quarter turn, squish. rotate a quarter, squish. At this point, you should be able to turn pot slightly downward & shake plant out into other hand.

Now measure the height of succulents by placing them in pot to see how tall they stand out of the pot. If they are too low fill the soil underneath up a bit more.

If they stick out too far, dump some soil out & measure again, filling soil in to the desired height. Arrange as you like, ensuring enough soil covers the roots. Gently press soil in around plants, but no need to compact really hard.

Finish by adding decorative rocks sand & moss- don’t need all of it, use what you like!
